Step by step

How to check an Oregon plumber's license

Ten minutes with two state search tools tells you whether a Portland plumber is licensed, bonded and insured, and whether anyone has filed complaints.

Step 1: CCB search

Enter the company name or CCB number at search.ccb.state.or.us. Look for an active status, the endorsement type, and any complaint history. The CCB says licensed contractors come with a bond, insurance, mediation and a searchable complaint record. (CCB)

Step 2: BCD search

Plumbing also needs a BCD plumbing contractor license. (BCD) Search the company in the BCD license search. The license type to look for is "Plumbing Contractor."

Step 3: Read the bond and insurance

The CCB lists the same bond amounts on its licensing page.

Step 4: Get the contract

Oregon requires a written contract for jobs over $2,000. (CCB, read Oct 17, 2026) The CCB's hiring guide lists what it should contain.

Sewer line repairs in Portland

Portland Permitting & Development issues the plumbing permit for repairs between the house and the property line. Work between the property line and the curb needs a separate right-of-way (UR) permit. (PP&D, UR permits) Ask the plumber which permits your job needs and who will pull them.
